INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Quick and easy installation - instructions
- Locate the on-board computer under the dash or behind passenger side kick
panel.
- Remove computer access panel.
- Remove the factory data chip and replace with the new hi-performance data
chip.
For detailed instructions see below.
All cars except 1986 thru 1992 T.P.I. engines and some V6 M.P.I.
- Make sure ignition switch is off.
- Locate the on-board computer (Electronic Control Module, ECM) under dash
or behind passenger side kick panel or shifter console.
- Remove the screws (if any) attaching ECM mounting bracket to vehicle.
- The ECM connectors should only be removed if necessary to reach chip access
panel.
- Remove the ECM access panel to expose the factory mounted data chip.
- Notice index notch on the chip and chip carrier. You must install the new
chip in exact same position as the original.
- Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, gently and evenly pry the chip carier
until you can grasp it with fingers. While lifting upwards on the carier,
rock it back and forth until it's free from the ECM.
- Remove the original chip from the carier, making note of the index notch.
Take you time, bend a litle bit the chip's pins inward and push carefully
the chip down out ef the carier. Do not use to much force.
- Now install the new data chip in the carier. Be very carefully, the chip's
pins must align the carier, do not use to much force.
- If the carier and socket are lined up correctly and the new data chip index
notch is correct, seat the carier back in in ECM.
- Put back chip access cover and reinstall the ECM in vehicle.
- If the "Check Engine" light comes on, check the following causes:
- improper seated data chip: reseat the data chip
- bent pins on data chip: VERY gently straighten pins and reseat the data
chip
- broken pins on data chip: replace the chip
- incorrect or defective data chip: replace the chip
- data chip installed backwards: replace the chip
1986 thru 1988 T.P.I. only
- Make sure ignition switch is off.
- Replace it carefully with the new data chip.
- Put back chip access cover and reinstall the ECM in vehicle.
1989 thru 1992 T.P.I. engines / 1992 T.B.I. trucks / some 1987 thru 1992 V6
M.P.I.
- Make sure ignition switch is off.
- Locate the on-board computer (Electronic Control Module, ECM) under dash

connector keys mating with key cutouts in plastic cap.
- Align the new data chip connector in ECM and pressdown firmly with arrows
pointing to wiring harness. On Corvettes with the black ECM tilt complete
chip assembly original and new data chip to one side with original chip headed
in ECM first to clear the hole in ECM.
- Put back chip access cover and reinstall the ECM in vehicle.
Important
For best results use best avalible gasoline with the highest octane rating!
If clutter accours, you mat need to retard your engine's timing to compensate
the lower octane fuel.
It's also highly recomended to remove the catalyctic muffler ("strip"
chip) and to install of low temperature thermostat (160 or 180 degrees).
